My work as a teacher

Having a personal and professional philosophy means that we have a particular view on things, specially as regards our teaching. Since all teachers are not the same, material and lessons are not "universal". I strongly believe that designing one's own material helps us transfer our beliefs to each and every lesson. However, it would be impossible to design absolutely everything, and, to be honest, it wouldn`t be quite authentic either.

There's a way to incorporate authentic, meaningful and personalized material to our lessons: we take what's already been "invented" and we adapt it to our teaching approach, our students, the time of the year, the aims.

I give you some of my experiences as a teacher: material I adapted for my lessons, lesson plans, photos, and projects.

Practicum folder
Here you'll find the plans, journals, photos and videos of the practicum of my primary teaching studies. I've also included professional projects, designed during my period of work at Los Andes school in Villa La Angostura.

Open classes
An open class is a good oportunity to show parents the hard work we do in class and which they may not notice at first sight (in folders, for instance). In my case, I like designing the open class together with the class. I start with some "impro sessions" and see where they take us: acting out, telling a story, playing a game, reciting poems and rhymes, teaching parents, etc. Ideas start flowing and the open class shapes up. As the teacher, I'm in charge of taking notes, editing and correcting the script if necessary; I guide the rehearsals; help them with decorations, invitations and costumes, music and use of microphones if necessary; and, of course, the formal part (planning the open class).
What you'll read if you click on the link above is the plan for my first open class. It was done with 2nd grade students in my first year at the school. I was on of the greatest experiences from that year.

Concert concert2
The concert is like taking the open class into the major leagues. It involves about the same structure but implies working with other groups from the school, participating in what looks more like a musical-theatre play with a lot more elements to take into account.
By clicking on the "concert" and "concert2" links, you'll get to see short and funny parts of a concert in 2012. You'll appreciate how students have fun and use the L2, and hopefully you'll notice all the previous work that necessary to make that day possible.
